an MEA made from cast film based on NAFION® PFSA polymer.
Our patented process results in a durable and very cost effective
membrane electrode assembly for use in hydrogen or reformate fuel
cell applications.

In addition to manufacturing Membrane Electrode
Assemblies for fuel cells Ion Power is engaged in the production
of catalyzed membranes for use in the electrolysis of water. Utilizing
NAFION® membranes, typically in the 2 to 7 mil thickness
range, Ion Power can custom make electrolyzer membranes to fit

LIQUION™ is a dispersion of NAFION®
in a mixture of water and alcohols. This product is manufactured
by Ion Power from NAFION® polymer. LIQUION™ is available
in 5% by weight solids and 15% by weight solids, low and high
equivalent weight (EW) polymer. Available LIQUION™ products
are:
LQ-1105 5% by weight NAFION®, 1100 EW
LQ-1115 15% by weight NAFION®, 1100 EW
LQ-1005 5% by weight NAFION®, 1000 EW
LQ-1015 15% by weight NAFION®, 1000 EW

NAFION® Products:
NAFION® is a registered trademark of E.I. DuPont de Nemours
brand of perfluorosulfonic acid/TFE copolymer. NAFION® polymer
has excellent chemical stability (similar to TEFLON®) while
at the same time allowing ion transport. These properties have
led to interest in the use of NAFION® polymer for various
electrochemical applications from industrial chloralkali cells

DuPont™ NAFION® products are available
in various forms:
Pellets
Used for acid catalysis of many organic reactions. Product names
include: NR40 (1000 EW polymer) and NR50
(1100 EW polymer). The product is also available in its precursor
form as R1100 and R1000. Click

Non-reinforced films
These films are used as separators in electrochemical
cells requiring high ionic conductivity, for example in fuel cells
and water electrolyzers. Product names include: N101-IP*,
N111-IP*, NE111F**, NE101F, N112, NE1135^, NE1035, N115,

*Please note: The N101-IP and
N111-IP are membrane products manufactured by Ion Power.
These membranes are made from the precursor forms i.e., NE101F
or NE111F and are hydrolyzed at Ion Power’s
facility. Once hydrolyzed, these membranes are suitable for fuel
cell applications.
** Any part with the “F” designation
is un-hydrolyzed membrane.

Cast Films
DuPont™ NAFION® PFSA NRE-211 and NRE-212
membranes are non-reinforced dispersion-cast films based on
chemically stabilized perfluorosulfonic acid/PTFE copolymer in the
acid (H+) form. The physical properties remain the same for
the stabilized membranes , which exhibit substantially lower
fluoride ion release compared to the non-stabilized polymer - a
sign of improved chemical durability. NAFION® PFSA membranes
are widely used for Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cells and
water electrolyzers. The membrane performs as a separator
and solid electrolyte in a variety of electrochemical cells that
require the membrane to selectively transport cations across the
cell junction. The polymer is chemically resistant and
durable.
Fabric reinforced Membranes
These reinforced films are typically used in industrial sized
electrochemical applications with large areas (typically in square
meters) where membrane strength is required. Product names include

Polymer Dispersions
The NAFION® polymer is dissolved in
a dispersion which can be used for casting films or manufacturing
other products containing NAFION® polymer. Available products
include: DE520, DE521, DE1020, DE1021, DE2020,
and DE 2021. DE dispersions are manufactured
by DuPont™ and distributed by Ion Power on a global basis.
